Always, Sarah

So. Freaking. What?

Can we be real with each other today? I want to share with you some things that I've been hearing.

"You can't teach what you know because you're not an expert."

"Why would anyone listen to you, you don't even have credentials."

"Isn't someone else doing that?"

Ever hear these statements yourself? Ever want to give that person a chill pill and send them off to another planet? Ya, me too. So, why is it then my friends, do we say these things to ourselves?

I totally get it though.  As a parent, spouse, blogger, creative entrepreneur, business person - telling ourselves that we're not good enough can be easier than actually taking the steps we need to take in order to do the dang thing we want to be doing.  So, you convince yourself that you're not an expert and you really need to be in order to make an impact. You believe that you're not big enough to launch that project. You come up with excuse after excuse because it's much easier than pulling the trigger.

But, you know what my friend? Maybe you're not an expert.  Maybe your email list only has 24 people on it. Maybe your blog is brand new. Maybe you don't have a pro-camera. Maybe you have a pilates studio where your garage used to be. Maybe you have 36 paintings you've slaved over piling up in the garage with no buyers in sight. Maybe your daycare has 3 kids in it and they're your own.

So. Freaking. What?

Those are called insecurities and fears.  I know them well.  It took me close to 9 months to prepare for and open a daycare. It took me 4 years of photography to admit to myself what type of photography I wanted to be doing. And, what happened? The daycare was successful for 7 years and I couldn't be happier with the people I'm working with now. I didn't need to have the top of the line equipment to shoot a single wedding or portrait session. I didn't need credentials or connections. I didn't need to be an expert.  I needed to believe that it was possible and that I could make it happen. I still need to believe that.

There will always be a reason not to do something. If you can't stop thinking about it, just go for it! Don't let fear and insecurities hold you back. You don't need to be an expert to change your life, you just need to stand up and take a step forward.
